Due to class restrictions my 1981 na 924 has to run on the standard disc/drum combination. Has anyone here fitted an automatic adjuster to the rear drums.
I'm finding adjusting the the lh/rh manual adjusters after every run a pain ! |

I don't mean to hijack your thread here. . . but I would like to know where I can find a set of OEM or better brake shoes without paying dealer prices. I know some company' make pretty crappy brake pads and shoes and I want to be able to drive the car hard and be confident in the brakes.
I'm probalby going to be taking my car to the track soon and I would also like to know if its possible to install automatic adjusters on the rear brakes. _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 N/A USA

| I think someone from Europe claimed that his rear drum brakes came on the came with adjusters. Never saw any photos to prove it, but the rear brakes came from a VW, so you might mosey over to your local old VW shops and ask them about self-adjusters, you never know, you might get lucky. |

If your looking for shoes don't try the uk it seems we can have cheap n' nasty or nothing at the moment. the cheap n' nasties seem to either work or they are are just c**p. when they work you have to keep adjusting (hence my need for auto adjusters).Textar seem to be the in vogue cheapies at the factors at the moment that seem to be ok.
I have placed my new drums against some beetle drums and the porsche drums seem bigger. Off to the air cooled VW shop tommorrow to ask some questions will post if and when I know something. |

Porterfeild is going to be the best brake shoe you will find for the drum set up. As with most things you WILL pay for quality. They are race-bred shoes and pads and are better than OEM or anything else out there.
Where to get them I don't know off hand. Do a google search.
You just missed some in the parts section here, front and rears for $100. Screaming deal! If I was interested in retaining the 4 bolt set up I would have snatched them up.
As for auto adjust rears...follow gohims suggestion and pound the pavement to the VW gear heads, you should be able to at least find out if it is a possibility, and may even find out that it is a readily available upgrade. _________________ MJ
