I have some photos attached, i have a couple questions about the throttle body on an '82 924 NA.
In the first one i was wondering if some free play here was normal, the metal piece being able to wiggle either way a little before it actually starts pressing on the springs?
On the second photo i was wondering where you can get these switches to replace the old ones?
Thanks a lot for your time and help.
Also, you can purchase larger throttle bodies right? how much would these help?
*edit* one more thing, theres supposed to be a gasket for the throttle body right? mine didnt have one *edit* _________________ 1982 924 NA gray/silver with black int.

I just upgraded standard throttle body to larger one in my wifes '83 NA, made a bit difference, felt stronger in higher rpms, starting from about 4000rpm.
I didn't use gasket to install it, just a good sealant, worked fine.
In case you'll upgrade, you'll probably need to machine some metal off the intake manifold (match ports of the TB and plenum). _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

No it's not normal.... but let me clarify a little.
The throttle is a progressive butterfly, meaning two discs and one opening before the other, this being the smaller of the two.
Each is controlled by its own spring.
So if you are saying "is there a gap between the first and second opening, well the answer is yes, If your asking is there a gap between the first spring actuating the answer is no.
The spring should have ample tension on it to force itself closed and onto the throttle stop, the little screw on the right.
If you look down the the throat at the throttle butterfly and see that the butterfly has closed fully then turn out the screw so that the buttefly is incrimentally open.
The idea is to prevent the snapping shut of the butterfly from damaging the aluminium and bitting into it.
Interestingly the porsche butterflies are made from brass which is less likely to bite, whereas the audi turbo throttles (which havethe larger secondary butterfly have aluminium butterflies.
One other cause of this is the cam at the top wearing out of its square shape. Take of the top locking nut and check this. Most other throttles will have a cam that you could swap out this part for.

My 1981 924na doesn't have switches, However my VW Golf GTI does - indicates the idle and wot to the digifant ecu. Throttle body Physically fits onto the Porsche. What do your switches connect to? _________________ 1981 NA 924 - Daily driver/sprints/hillclimbs

There are three switches on my 81 924.
They are for WOT. IDLE, and OFF IDLE.
Among other things, the ECU uses them to determine when the driver is accellerating (looks at IDLE and OFF IDLE) switches toggling off in a short period to disable the O2 sensor monitoring for a short period to improve performance.
Also disables O2 sensing at WOT.
The switches from the throttle body of my 86 Jetta GL look like they would work. |
