I'm not sure whats wrong but I noticed yesterday and then it happened again today. when I accelerate on and i'm pushing smootly or not pushing anymore on the pedal the car suddenly accellerates quickly and pulls.
like when I'm stepping on the pedal smoothly it accellerates evenly and then it suddlenly pulls.
could it just be something wrong with the throtle cable?
just want to know what the likely possibilities are.
also my car has the hot start problem if I drive it and then park it and come back 20 mins later it won't start but if I come back 1hour later etc it starts up.
if it won't start I keep on trying and it suddlenly starts after several tries when stepping a bit on the gas and it starts easier when I push the clutch down. _________________ 78 924 sold.

when starting ALWAYS have the clutch depressed, as for the sudden burst of power, that is not right, something isnt functioning properly and that could be why your emissions arent good, possibly bad injectors. _________________ 3 928s, |

could it be a sticking throttle cable because the throttle cable looks old and the plastic around it look old and ripped and the cable looks like it needs to be adjusted.
my clutch was super heavy and I replaced the cable and it is much better now before it got stuck , thought this could be the same. _________________ 78 924 sold.

I doubt it, does the cable stick? or does it feel really heavy? _________________ 3 928s, |

no the gas pedal doesn't feel heavy.
my clutch pedal felt really heavy and it got stuck in the middle and squeeked. and new cable fixed it. _________________ 78 924 sold.

I doubt that it is your throttle cable then, _________________ 3 928s, |

this is interesting, i mean the power lag, and then the sudden burst of power. i want to say my car has done this in the past, but again, i havent been able to drive my car since school has started... . so if it is the injectors, what level of difficulty is it to change them?

My toyota truck does this when it's colder out, it hesitates until about 2,700 then it sorta...kicks in you could say and surges ahead. The problem on my truck is the throttle body needs cleaned up. That could be an idea on your car. _________________ Mike

Mine does the same thing especially when the weather gets warmer. I have not been able to solve it. I have been through most of the CIS system and it checks out or I have rebuilt of replaced it. If I ever figure it out I will let you know. I would love to hook up a fuel pressure guage several different places and see the reading will driving. It could aslo be electrical.
As for the hot start problem I would check the injectors to see if they are leaking. _________________ 1981 924 NA

Possibly a spring/s broken on the centrifugal advance? (in the distibutor)

Mine used to do the same thing.
I want to say it was one of two things.
Timing was to far retarded. And the advance when it finally kicks in per the vacuume increase over 3000 rpms or so.... feels like a 500 pound load is taken out of the car.
Or.... could have been cured when I replaced my WUR. I know that was part of an acceleration issue I also had. But the timing is easy to check.
Also could be some thing sticking in the dist... as the other post hinted to with a broken spring.
