Long overdue, the price for painting is half this time of year, so I'm going for it even though I'm not totally ready. I wanted to do all the prep.

I took of all the trims. I'm just curious about the aluminum trim over the side window drip edge. Should they paint these off or on?

The rims are up for grabs for a good trade-- I'm getting my 14" inch originals from Mike soon.

I'm slowly bringing her back to life.

It’s my first paint job so I'm not going for big money. Just one color would be nice. There are too many other engine and suspension parts to be had.
$500 Maaco to $250.00 .I bet your 87 looks a lot better than mine without the new paint.

the bumper and spoiler are chewed up and the fender and door are still scratched, but considering my car was a perfect 20ft car it looks like crap

The drip rails just pop off. I would remove the small windows and the hatch and the rubbers on the bumpers, door handles, all emblems, etc. Tape as much as you can before you bring it in. My friend had his car painted and they taped off the rubber on the bumpers and had overspray on the edges. Spent a bundle and looks great but not the bumpers.

Remove anything that you do not want painted. If I were you I would give the manager a couple of bucks in order to give you a couple of more coats of paint. Doesn't hurt.

While you are at it, do not touch anything greasy or with silicone. If your wife puts softener in your clothes try not to touch them and the car. You will get fish eyes.

My fenders still look good.

good luck

Roll down the windows and the scrubbers can be taken off. Be careful not to break them they cost a nice sum.

Windows pop out from the inside. Go back easily. While you are at it you can replace your rear speakers. Most of the work is done.

well heres the total $445
-includes an adheision primer and 3 coats
-the holes filled where the side mirrors were (I have new ones that will be put in a different location)80
-The hood taken down to bare metal
-the top edges where rust has formed on the roof blasted.100 for both

Do you think the price is fair?
the 250 was just for the primer and coats with light machine sanding.

For you Joe and Vince The paint Experts, Dolomite grey metallic,

Its a looker from 20ft away--don't get too close.
About Maaco- its just a paint mill---Do All the prep first--stop in often and check---tell them how to do it.
They just spray adhesive primer on it and go---don't believe the sanding crap. I can still see the inprint of a decal--You always get the basic package and they just improve the paint quality between packages.
I went back for a touch up area that they missed and the painted my lower windshield.I guess it likes sending your food back at a resturant-- the cook will spit in your food.
But I tell you --its nice to be painted- and I will go there again- the price is right if you do all the prep.
