|

I took out the dashboard on the car I'm just trying to start, and in return, most of the grounds are just hanging around. I've permanently grounded the fuel pump to start the car, but I want to make sure that while it is cranking, it has oil pressure, and i'm not destroying the motor. Could somebody offer some insight as how to temporarily set up the oil pressure guage to monitor my engine vital stats on the first crucial moments of it's life? _________________ Now:

The oil pressure sending unit is on the back side of the head, sort of a cannister looking thing with two wires coming off of it ("G" in the left-hand photo below)
._. click images for larger photos
One wire lights up the idiot light in the left-hand "combo gauge", and the other wire goes to the oil pressure gauge. The gauge itself is fec by a plug on the back, with a black, a blue & white, and two brown wires. The browns are grounds, the black is hot (power with ignition ON) and the blue & white comes from the sending unit. The oil pressure gauge is the left-most one in the photo above. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

Wow. That was absolutely perfect. Makes me wonder why I'm still on Rennlist, where half of the posts are a complete waste of time. _________________ Now:

Wow, I didn't even know that one of those wires went to the idiot light. Learn something new every day...sometimes even more than one something

Glad I could help.
Oh, and if you mistakenly hook up the wires backwards to the sending unit, the gauge will peg out as soon as you turn the key ON, and the idiot light will constantly glow. To keep me from making that mistake a second time (you guys know how hard it is to get to the terminals on the sending unit), I now have 9" leads coming off the sending unit, and I put a "bullet" connector on one wire and a spade connector on the other - these plug into matching connectors on the main wiring harness. Can't mix them up now!! _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

You want the fuel pump that way so theres no current drops
that could minamize its performance.. my guages have
been a pain though Ive cleaned it up Im hoping I can get it right. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
