The 2 small connectors on the starter,
the small regular mm screws there bases
are to loose resulting in a failed starter.

Symptoms were starter run on after car started starter wouldnt shut off
right away.. finally resluting in shorting out causing car to stop running.

Anyone have this happen to a starter before.

I bought a starter from NAPPA for just $113.00
this old broken one is going to Wallz rebuilt starters &
alts. I want to know what went wrong as the connector
lugs are loose not broken off exactly.

Joe, do you have a NAPA part number for the new starter you picked up?

Those connections at the solenoid are embedded in that hard plastic that surrounds them, so if you're too rough on them (especially the small ones) when tightening, the plastic can crack and/or connectors loosen from the plastic. You can just get a new solenoid for $20-$30 and replace it yourself.

Ive got a electrical gremlin...I cant get
starter to turn over only click Im doing the
electrical fix on the interior harness under the dash.
seems I toasted a wire or 2 when the starter failed.

Not a pretty sight.

Joe, I have had that exact problem. The same parts on 2 brand new starters failed the same way. I found that they hit the exaust as I would twist the starter body when I put them in the hole in the block. One starter broke in 2 minutes after removing it from it's box. I lenghtened the starter wires and installed them first, then installed the starter last. I also found that the casting was a little to big to fit in the hole in the block. Since I work in a machine shop, I put the starter in a laythe and trimmed the housing, it then fit perfect and I didn't break it again for a third time. You are right don't install those wires to tight. NAPA took back the starter and gave me a new one. Those plastic pieces are only held on by an aluminum rivit (very weak) Smoothie, good advice about the solenoid swap.

sorry to hear that Joe. I hope you can loosen it up and get her runing, rather than having to replace your engine.
