Hello Everyone,

The odd one of you might remember me from earlier this year - I had a brief fling with a silver 924 that I bought and rebuilt the engine on with the help of some people on here (well, the 924 bit of the board). Unfortunately a house purchase meant I had to sell it (at a tidy profit mind you) but the bug had bitten and last weekend this landed in my hands......

As you can see there's plenty of work to be done in the paintwork alone - plus it doesnt start as the fuel pump isnt priming and there's no voltage to the coil. However the very reasonable price reflected the state of the car so fingers crossed it will be a worthwhile investment....

I've only had a quick look around it, but upon trying to locate the ECU I came across this.....

Would I be right in thinking the ECU has been cut out of the car and this is whats left???? You'll have to bear with me, until I get a 944 workshop manual I aint got a clue about this car or how it works or where anything is!

Either that or its a redundant immobilizer/alarm loom? Upon testing it most of the wires had low voltages to them with the ignition on (I never tried with it off). The photo's are taken in the footwell incidentally (incase it was hard to make out by the pics).

All help will be much appreciated.

Best change my sig lol.

Cheers

Dan

judging from the electrical tape and the colour coding of the wires, I do not believe them to be factory wires, so it could be for an alarm or a stereo.

how long has the car been sitting, and when was the timing belt last done?

too long! about 3 years!! The front of engine service i keep reading about will definitely need to be done! I've since read that the ECU is infact on the right hand side (our drivers side) so yeah i dont think this bunch of wires is a problem. just means i gotta find out what IS the problem(s) now.

Yeah, those definitely don't look like factory wires. I would guess they belong to an aftermarket alarm or sound system.

Since your car is a UK Model, anything is possible. You need to ask a UL member where the DME box was moved to. Porsche must have moved it when they slipped the steering wheel from the left side of the car to the right. I sincerely doubt if they left the DME box under what be comes the drivers feet in a UK market car.

I would expect that the reason that the car will not start is a missing alarm brain box. You need to chase the cut wires down to see where they go, and repair any engine circuits that were cut as part of the alarm system installation. After getting that done, you need to see to the front of engine service before attempting to start the engine (or even turn it over for safety reasons).
