|
|
Hey Guys,
I am doing some body work on my rear drivers side quarter panel, I have some dents and waves that I need to smooth out. While I was sanding it the other day, I found a very large amount of body filler, which must have been from a previous accident. It seems to be more than 1/8 of an inch thick in some places.
What is the best way to get it all off? I have been sanding with high grit paper, and scraping/chipping it off with a very sharp hobby knife, but it seems like there has to be a better way.
Thanks,

Buy a grinder at Harbor Freight and grind it off. You will like this tool as it works extremely well. I think I paid about $19 for it.
You can use it for other things too. Polishing etc.
I would not hammer the bondo off. Buy the grinder or borrow one. If you were near I would lend you mine. You can use sand paper on the grinder or they make a black woven? vynil? wheel you can put on it. I cannot think of the name right now. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Stripdiscs are a loose foam disc covered in grit or a flap disc ina grinder. Makes lite work of paint and filler. _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

1/8 of an inch is not thick at all. Once you remove it..what are your plans from there? You'll still need to refill the same area and get the same results unless your a master at metal shrinking and shaping. _________________ 1976 924

Porschev,
The reason Im taking it off is because a good bit of it was cracking already, so I figure I aught to just refresh it all just in case. Also, whoever did the body work did not even touch the metal as far as reshaping it, so there are areas that are unnecessarily thick.

Just and update- I got the filler off, its looking good. I used a grinder with some sand paper on it. Made hours of work turn into like 15-20 mins. awesome.
