I think I paid about $800 for the parts to repair my 924NA and a friend/Porsche mech. did the rebuild for $400 over the winter. This included heavy duty valve springs as well as all the other parts. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Assuming the pistons & cylinders check out ok, there isn't much more than rings, main&rod bearings, valve guides, gaskets, and some cheap misc (oiler tube elbow, spark plugs, etc.). You should be able to get away with around $400 in parts. Another $150 for a mcahine shop to r&r the head and you're set. There are lots of "while you're in there" projects though- waterpump, engine mounts, clutch, etc.

Where would a guy go to get Euro spec pistons for the NA engine? _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

I got my euro pistons from a guy on UK Ebay, total cost shipped was $280 U.S. with new rings. How I found him was went the the U.K. Ebay site and started looking for someone who seemed to have some 924 parts for sell. And asked him to send me a set of pistons. He couldn't help me but turned me onto another guy in Germany that was more than happy to ship them. Only gripe I had was I didn't get the rist pins too. But other wise they are a nice set of pistons. _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |

Here is a price list from one of my parts dealers on prices for parts to do rebuild.
Main Bearing Set Kolbenschmidt 78.04 n/a 78.04 ( X )
Rod Bearing Set Kolbenschmidt 28.12 n/a 28.12 ( X )
Cylinder Head Bolt Febi 2.11 n/a 21.10 ( X )
Valve Guide United States 4.63 n/a 37.04 ( X )
Cylinder Head Gasket Set 67.27 n/a 67.27 ( X )
Crankcase Gasket Set 58.43 n/a 58.43 ( X )
Oil Pan Gasket Set 12.86 n/a 12.86 ( X )
if you changed any quantities then recalculate subtotal > 302.86
Of course this cost can go up if you need valves, freeze plugs, You may have to get an oil pump gasket, not usre if it is included with the crank set, should be as well as the oil pan gasket. when I got my pump gaskets I have to get them from the dealer. _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |

Those are pretty decent prices, Mikri.
FYI- the oil pump gasket and oil pan gaskets are included with the bottom end gasket set. I would add on new rod nuts too.

This is a good thread. We should convert it to an FAQ, standardize the answers with a few options for different motors (turbo, eurospec), create list of links, and post to the tech section. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

'Yea pretty good. though I would just get a head gasket for 25.00
and I think I could get the mains for maybe 20 dollars less somewhere
once you familiarize yourself with all the parts youll see you can cut a few corners though you gotta get the whole list prettymuch.. I make my own water pump and oil pump and water flange gaskets for the cyl. head.
you can save a little when you see what you need for gaskets. Dont forget
plugs and oil and filters. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Yo Once you set the bearings and feel-in pretty stoked, its time to set up the pistons with rings dont get stock replcements get either total seal or
Deves both are 3 pice well at least the Deves are. There more fun than opening a and letting loose monkeys from a barrel. replacing valves
up to you once you get the right valve spring compressor tool. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
