Guys, while cleaning my basement, I found an old NADA book from 1988. It lists the original MSRP for an '80 931 as $20,875 US. Sorry, the book didn't have values after 1980.

With options a 1980 931 was more expensive than a base 1980 911!

The 1981 931 was $20K with the sport group option (leather sport seats, gas shocks, and wider trashcan lid wheels) the price was $25K. I have the factory sticker for my 81 Weissach Special Edition 924NA, and it was $20K (the same as a standard 931). The trashcan lid wheels were a $3500 option by themselves. A friend of mine has the factory sticker for his 81 931 from when he bought it new (and still only has 12K miles on the car).

By contrast, the 1987 924S was introduced at a suggested retail price of $18.995 (the same price that the 944 was introduced at in 1983), which rose to $19.999 later on during the model year before balloning to over $30K during the 1988 model year (caused by dollar devaluation against the Dmark).

Compared to the 924, the 944, and the 924S were performance bargains. Which is why, in 1984, the 944 had a 1 year waiting period, and Dealers were charging up about $10K above sticker. I know, I try to buy one for cash at sticker in 83 and 84, and the Dealers laughed at me. I think if it had been possible to keep the 924S at $20K in 1988, the model would have lived longer.

According to The Redbook, an '80 924 Turbo listed at AU$39,935 here. The base '80 911 listed at AU$41,586.

My '81 Turbo would've apparently listed slightly cheaper than the '80, at AU$35,692. Don't know why. Perhaps our dollar got stronger that year?

The '83 944 listed at AU$41,495.

We never got the 924S, IIRC.
