I come to this site to mainly do some casual reading, being a fairly new 924 owner myself. I have noticed a trend in the posts, and I can't resist, but posting a summary of my thoughts.

I see quite a few perspective 924 buyers looking for advice, costs, etc.... Quite honestly, I wish I had done more research before stepping into a huge pile of "924". Yes....these are really cool, great handling cars....BUT....They can be maintenance nightmares, and will always...ALWAYS, cost you money. Without knowing much of anything other than the performance of the cars....I dove in, head first. I bought an extremely low miles car (Car had sat virtually unused.), with the the thought..."Hey a new interior, a tune up...and I got a really great PORSCHE for less than $5K." Wow was I wrong. I am 90% done with the restoration...and I will have just under $10K when all is said and done. (Until the next little thing, that goes wrong with 17 year old cars, does.) Everything about these cars is expensive. And yes....you can do SOME of the work yourself, but lets face it....the facts are, you had better have all the right tools, and know what you are doing, BEFORE you dig into some of the internal engine work. The smallest mistake, can be death to the car!

My advice....if you really want a 924, find one with low miles, in good condition, WITH ALL DOCUMENTED SERVICE RECORDS, and pay the asking price of probably between $5K to $8K. I wouldn't buy one (like me) for a couple / few thousand, and think you are going to have an enjoyable sports car for less than $5K. Chances are...it ain't happenin'. You might spend a little more up front for one in pristine condition....but take it from me....you will be well ahead in the end.

Oh yeah...one more thing....Don't think you can buy one...drive it a while..and make money on it. There are way too many of these cars still alive....and I can't see them going above the $2K to $8K range in the near future.

Anyway...just my 2 cents.

Think you are right. Same in europe.
I bought my 1987 924S automatic early 2003. I use it every day. Except for the regular maintenance no costs at all. But it is still a 18 year old car. Sort of a timebomb. Enjoy the time you have left and hope for the best.

Yep....I guess one way to look at is....What other PORSCHE are you going to have for under $10K, besides a 924 / 944? Lets face it...even a decent 914 is going to run some bucks.
