|
|
OK, last Thursday My transmission went wacko. It started when backing into a parking spot and it stuck in reverse and neutral I couldn't get any forward gears. Then, at break I whant out to check it out and it ended up in second. The shift leaver moves from N forward and from full left to about the middle of the "H". When I move the shifter forward, I starts to grind if the car is running or moving. (It's touching the reverse gear teeth.) I haven't pushed the issue and the LAST thing I want to do is get it stuck in both reverse and second at the same time.
I am assuming that the 1-2 shift fork has gotten pushed forward without the selector lever in it. With the 1-2 fork up in the 2nd position the shift selector cannot move out of the notch cut into the reverse rod.
I have to pull the gearbox off, pull the selector and re-align the 3 shift (R, 1-2 & 3-4,) rods then re-install the selector rod.
the question is: Can I lower the transaxel and rest it on the torsion bar housing far enough to pull the rear/gearbox section off?? Or, do I have to pull the whole transaxel before separating it.
The reason I ask is the car is 120 miles from home and getting my tools to it will be an issue. The less I HAVE to do to it the better. _________________ The Porsche is now my son's, my car is cooler, slower but cooler. |

That would help wouldn't it.
Yes it's a '77, actually built in Sepember '76. it still has the original 4 speed. _________________ The Porsche is now my son's, my car is cooler, slower but cooler. |

Take a good look at the shift linkage on the top of the tranny, it may be loose or broken. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

I checked all the linkage, it was all fine.
I had this transmission pulled and dissassembled just 200 miles ago when the roll pin on the 3-4 selector rod fork "dissappeared" allowing that fork to rotate on the rod far enough that the selector couldn't engage it. Thus causing 3-4 to dissappear. _________________ The Porsche is now my son's, my car is cooler, slower but cooler. |
