i'm want to figure out whats wrong with my headlight motor not working. Right now my headlights don't fit cus they hit the edge of the car so they can't fully close, i'm going to try and adjust it but i'm not sure if i can do it.

anyways i want to fix the electrical problem with the motor. i know the motor work because when i plug it in (the 4 pin plug) and when i turn it manually it suddenly engages and goes up or down. i read the tech section. i'm going to replace the relay no sure where to buy one and the diodes. i'm not really sure where the diodes are it says to remove the plastic cover. Also tech sec says to tighten the pins in the motor not sure what that means.

Also the the tech sec say there is a 4 pin plug that is suppose to plug into the motor right? min has space for 4 pins but there are only 3 pins and wire connected to it.

Also should i get a new switch too. plus i was thinking what if the wires that go from the switch to the motor are cut or ruined somwhere between the motor and switch. The motor also has resistence if i keep on turning it so it is getting power. flipping the switch does nothing the motor will suddenly engage to go up or down when i turn it manually whatever the position of the switch is.

in order to adjust the headlights position (main headlight holder and piece out of wack on yours) there are 6 bolts, three accessable from the engine bay, 3 from inside the fender, all are 10mm heads, and you will need a wrench and a rathet,

with the motor, there should be 4 wire, 1 switched (turns on with ign) 1 ground, and iirc 1 tell the motor to go up when on, and the other down when on, if you look in the motor and see only 3 silver recievers then that means that 1 of the pins has fallen inside, I recommend that you remove the motor and pull the boot off and bent the tabs on the pin out abit and reinsert it into the plastic reciever of the plug,

if you flip your headlight switch and the lights come on the switch is fine forget about it for the moment.

if you are really worried about the wires, they are probably fine, however you can get a multimeter and do a continuity test between the switch and the motor.

also how is that water pump coming along? if you still need a torque wrench I finally got one from KMS tools for a wopping $20, brand new, you will need the 1/2" drive with a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter to use the smaller sockets, the 3/8" torque wrench is in in/lb and will be useless to you. it does appear to be a decent made one either, to download there flier and find out there locations go to www.kmstools.com but if you know how to get to Ikea off burnette ave in burnaby, then you can find them as they are on that same road b4 the corner on the right.

ok thanks man

where can i buy that torque wrench for 20 buck? thats super cheap , canadian tire has one of for 89 and one for 99 bucks without the sockets.

i haven't had time yet to change my water pump kinof busy with school and shit for the past few weeks. but i want to do a full tune up soon spark plugs , timing belt and water pump. i think you need a torque wrench for the spark plugs too.

do you need a special tool for the timing belt?

and for the headlight motor, i was talkign about the plug that goes into the motor has only 4 pins and only 3 wires attached to it and one wire (white) is split into two connections and one ed goes into the plug and other end is attached to this square piece of metal weird . i can try and take a pic tom with my cell camera. if there is a missing wire i don't know which wire is misisng and were to find it. i think someone really screwed around with the wires in my car.

the wires behind my dash are a real mess and there are a bunch of cut wires.....

i've never used a torque wrench. so there are ones that measure in lbs and in lower measurements? which one do i need. you said the 3/8" is in pounds and the 1/2" is not. sorry i don't know much about tools.

i just looked in my haynes manual and in one part it says to torque the 3 short bolts on the water pump to 6 ft-lbs or ( 2.2 m-kg) i guess i need a to get one that measures in m-kgs ?

in regards to the headlight motor wiring, I would like to see a pic of that, and as stated I do have a good used water pump that you can have for $20 and it should be fine for quite awhile, in regards to the torque wrench for sparks plugs no, just tighten them down you will break tools before you strip the threads

Spark plugs are only supposed to be tightened to between 15-20ftlbs, depending on the manufacturer of the car and the cylinder head material.

The spark plugs threads on the cylinder head can to stripped without a lot of effort if you are not paying attention on alloy heads.

A torque wrench is ALWAYS a good idea when tightening commonly/frequently acessed and critical use fasteners like: motor oil pan drain bolts, spark plugs to avoid damaging the thread and make sure that the fastener/s in question do not fall out, cv axles, suspension/steering components. Especially if you are not a professional mechanic with an experienced touch.

Actually he said the 3/8" wrench is in "in/lbs" (inch-pounds) not "in pounds". The 1/2" is marked in ft/lbs (foot-pounds). The 3/8" drive inch-pounds wrench would be more accurate for smaller fasteners. To convert from foot-lbs to inch-lbs, just take the foot-lbs number and multiply by 12, so 6 foot-lbs = 72 inch-lbs. If money's tight and you can only get one, it usually makes more sense to get a 1/2" drive marked in foot-lbs.
