Okay, I've finally got this engine back together and went to start it up the other day. When I hit the start-button (yes, I have a button) the starter solenoid clicked once and died.
Now, I've bought a new one but before I put it in the car, I need to figure out why an otherwise perfect-operating starter decided to blow at the first influx of juice. Any ideas??? I've checked the obvious and, yes, all cables and wires are in their proper places as far as I can see. I need some ideas on what else I should be looking into.
I should note here that I managed to blow another 944 starter today while testing it. I jumped a wire from the battery-cable terminal to the switch terminal -just as the books say- and introduced juice from the battery. After the starter jumped in my hand, I accidentally grounded it out against the steel hood-latch that it was laying next to. So apparently these solenoids blow pretty easily??????
Help, please! _________________ 1987 924S - Was a daily driver...now it's GONE! *sniff*

the soliniods shouldblow that easy, check for voltage at wires down there first, and try jumpering the large wire (constant) to connection 50 (switched) and see if it cranks _________________ 3 928s, |
