Some early pictures of my conversion. Comments please! Have one problem - what to do about the "beat up" rocker panels. A previous post here suggested welding home baseboard heating panels but I cannot find them at Home Depot or any other home improvement outlet. I do not want to use the black rubber rocker panel covers?? Help - ideas!! Dick.
Full description of work in process at my web site at www.jaxrepo.com.
944 nose section with hood scoop.
Rear fender flares to be added next. Note 911 rims. Car to be painted original silver color of upper portion of a formerly two-tone (silver & blue) car. _________________ 83/86 944 Parts cars (2)

Jax, looks good so far. I will be tackling the same project in the future, and I am pretty much waiting for parts to come together. First thing though, is to convert to a 5 bolt suspension. I have one that came from an 87 924s that needs to be rebuilt.
I want to go with the Fuch wheels, but I am not to sure what size wheel and offset I will need. Anyone have an idea on this? I`m thinking a 944 16x7 for the fronts and 16x8 in the rear. Sound about right?
Did an online search on the baseboards. The only ones I can find at home depot have the copper tubing running through them.
Actually it isn`t Home Depot. Found them here......

When you guys are ready let me know and I will run you through it.
Look for the baseboard heading covers. That is what you want. Flatten the top portion with a hammer, weld the two inch strip to the bottom forming an L, cut to size and weld on. Grind the welds flat and fill with body filler.
You will see that after you are finished they look perfect.
For some new pictures ask Mark E of 1979 Euro Turbo fame. I sent him some last week and you can see the finished product. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Surely thats more 944 look than Carrera GT? Looks good though.
Is that a standard US spec rear bumper? I know the GT item is deeper than the OEM Euro spec one but that one looks pretty close to the GT one. _________________ 1981 Porsche 924/80 Porsche 931 GT rep |

Or, you could use rocker panels like this....

Hi Guys: Thanks for the input.
Your questions:
jpab924 - The wheels are 911 Fuchs rims I believe but I will have to raise the rear with air shocks as the tires rub when cornering & accelerating.
iwantacarrera - The rear bumper is probably euro spec as the car was originally sold in the UK & is calibrated in KM's.
wolf1 - Really nice!!
I am toying with the idea of cutting the rockers from a donor 944 & welding them on. How does that sound. Dick. _________________ 83/86 944 Parts cars (2)
