|
|
hi everybody. I now have the chance to buy a very nice looking porsche 944 targa type II of 1986 with a busted engine. Now i would really like to just replace my exterior with that of the 944. Obviously this isnt going to be easy. I am willing to invest a whole lot of time in it. But...is it possible? Does anyone have any experience whatsoever with this?
Thanks! |

The 944 never came from Porsche with a Targa Roof.
Do you mean it has a sunroof?
If you want the 944 body, you're better off fixing the 944.
Why not buy the 944 cheap, and sell your 924 for the cash to fix or replace the 944's engine? |

An early 944 in running condition is almost as cheap as a 924 now days, I saw a 1983 944 advertised here for $3000 last week. I would just buy something along those lines... _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

I like the looks of the 944 better, but like the much cheaper maintenance of the 924 more. So i thought it might me possible to create the best of both worlds. But after some research i came upon the problem i cannot overcome. The fact that its a self-carrying chassis (not sure if thats the proper english term), and thus it will be nearly impossible to make everything fit perfectly.
It is a targa btw, not a sunroof |

Depending on where you live it may not be allowed due to smog laws. They don't like having an older engine swaped into a newer car.
I'm assuming you have a non S non turbo 924. From what I understand the engine mounts are slightly diffrent also torque tube diameter is diffrent. So if you swaped the the entire drivetrain engine torque tube and trans you should be able to do it although it will be alot of work. You wouldn't be unbolting the body lifting it up and setting it on the 924 frame. Also you would have to find a way to drive the gauges since the late 944 are electronic and the 924 are mechanical. It would be easier to repair or replace the 944 engine. _________________ 80 924

I have 944 rear quarters... free. Anyone just needs to pick them up in Massachusetts. No delivery available.
