| I'm fairly satisfied with the power of my 82 924 at 110hp or so, but if I could just get what our overseas friends got, without digging in so much...how do I do that. Are there restrictors to lose? I've read that there is 4 horse in the timing. That sort of thing. Can I make my car 120-125hp on the total cheap? Plugs, wires, filter, fuel, lose any restrictions, timing? Is there not even 10 hp hiding in this USA motor as is? |

The European engine has a compression ratio of 9.3:1.
The 1976-1977 US engine has a compression ratio of 8.0:1 (95.4 hp)
The 1977-1979 US engine has a compression ratio of 8.5:1 (110 hp)
The 1980-on US engine has a compression ratio of 9.0:1 (115 hp)
Perhaps raising the CR could help a bit!? _________________ Porsche 944 turbo '87 - maranchino red

Cam header is the easiest with bigger valves next being you may have the head off. If you are redoing the engine then there are more things to change, pistons 9.3, carbs, MSD ignition etc.
Concentrate on handling first and get the car handling well then proceed as MONEY is available.
To get 25 hp you will need about at least 2K. Easiest way to get 145hp is to buy a 944. Early car about 2500 to 4000. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

My friend over here got a 2.4ltr job done with a crank for £500 and pistons for another £450.
Add to this the cost of a set of rabbit (VW Golf) rods and new bearings plus a rebore and gaskets and you get what, about £1400?
I guess thats about $2400. I suppose to make it go very well a cam is in order, header and perhaps EFI. All that might add another $1500
However it may be worth a try without the extra stuf to see if the gains are worthwhile. My friend got over 160bhp on the dyno (with the extra stuff though)....later proven at under 160+5% by Porsche Club GB when his car was rules tested having won the UK championship.
Cheers
