Hi!
I'm new here. I'm from Quebec City, canada.
I'm planning to buy a 924 our 924 turbo when I will have sold my Audi S4. I would like to know what are the main adventages of each model. The car would be a daily driver for the summer.
I would also like to know about the repair cost of each model. Could you give me a comparaison vs my S4 or a vw A1/A2 jetta.
sorry about the crappy english, I don't have the chance to write in english very often.
Thank you. |

both will have electrical gremlins, unless you have had a very thorough PO,
the 931 has more horse and is a much more refined car, however parts are more specific and harder to find, also the turbocharger has to be rebuild roughly every 30k miles and runs about $800 USD for a rebuilt unit, though rebuild kits are avalible for about $100 USD, however there are parts that should be replaced that do NOT come with the rebuild kit, and the exhaust housing will probably be cracked and in need of replacement, or living with exhaust leaks, also 1 special tool is needed (a KKK tool, for 4 bolts) for the rebuild.
the 931 is ALOT more complex to work on mainly in the engine having alot more crammed into the bay, and the clutch is a MUCH more complex design and parts are alot pricier.
the 924 is a fun car to drive (quicker than the 80s golf or rabbit), but is not quick by ANY stretch of the imagination. however is very simple mechanically, everthing is very straigh forward imo, so if you are mechanically inclined then you shouldnt have an issue, it will as I have stated above have electrical gremlins, mainly bad grounds and corroded connections which you will always be tracing and fixing.
keep in mind this car is one for taking corners and enjoying, but I recommend that you test drive 1 first so you know how quick it isnt, the 924 and 931 seem very slow at 100kmph on the highway, but time does fly when driving them, in other words make sure you watch your speedo if you dont want a ticket
both are fun cars and could be used as a daily driver, however if you do go for a 931 I hope the miles are short between work and home, as those turbos are a PITA to change, about 8 hours in the car. _________________ 3 928s, |

thank you!
if I test drive à 944, will the driving feeling be similar to the 924? 924 are king a rare here but there is a lot of 944.
I really like the road handling of my 84 jettas (both have a lowered suspension)... I guess the handling is better in the 924? |

The 944 is a whole lot better than a 924 or a 931.
924 cheapest to run................................... to buy about $200 to $2000
931 fun to run but more costly........................................$1000 to 4000
944 slightly costlier than the 931 but loads better in all departments. Early 2000 to 4000 and the later 2500 to 5000.
The 944 or mine gets 33 mpg highway and is nice and quick. In 50000 I am now putting in a clutch. PO may have repaired it?? Car has 160K
Refined handling.
924 good mileage easy to work on comfortable but crude compared to the 944
931 good mileage increased cost of maintenance if needed on the engine. The rest of the body is the same as the 924 with the exception of maybe the 5 bolt disc brakes.
Buy what you can afford. Have the cars checked out before you buy. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

I second the notion of having them checked out before you buy.
if you're handy with cars, then read up on the specific weaknesses of the car so you know where to look and what questions to ask, otherwise get someone familiar with these porsches to go over the car. I got a porsche inspection on mine before I bought and not only did it give me an idea what I was getting into, but it also helped to get the price down.
of course, once I got the car, it became a to-do list! _________________ it's funny, but when they said "Anything is Possible", that's exactly what they meant.... |
