Before everyone starts to bitch about rice this rice that, What do you think of it. How does it compare to the 924s? It has got to be quite a bit faster.

Absolutely superb cars. Basic history of the MR2 is that Lotus designed a new chassis, a mid engined transverse sports car, cheap to build, and worked out an agreement with Toyota to build it and supply the mechanicals, engine, tranny, chassis stuff etc.
The second generation MR2s were not quite as light and responsive, but they were very well engineered from a suspension and body shell standpoint. They are reasonably lightweight, about as heavy as a 924S, have excellent suspension, although the brakes are somewhat lacking in stock form, and a superb engine. The 3S-GTE is one of the darlings of Japanese tuning that can see considerable performance gains from bolt ons, and with turbocharger and fuel system upgrades make better than 350hp.
It's no Porsche, by any means, but with a little bit of time and money, you can get one of these cars turning lap times comparable to a 951 with a similar power/weight ratio. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |
