Fellow Aussie board members,
What brand of coolant would you recommend? There are so many different brands & mixtures, including per-mix and concentrate, that I'm not sure which would be best. _________________ TJ

I am not an Aussie and I am not sure what is available but I am a fan of the orange stuff in concentrated form. The pre mix is just a way of charging you for adding water. _________________ 1981 924 NA
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but you
still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs. |

bump...
Any of you fellow Aussie board members have a recommendation on coolant brand?
I'm inclined to go with the concentrate stuff & do a 50/50 mix per the haynes manual (coldest it gets here is about -1 & that is in the dead of the night in winter. a really cold day is where the temp stays below 10C - 50F). _________________ TJ

Yeah, sorry tj924. I meant to check last night and didn't get around to it.
I use the concentrate stuff and mix it per the directions on the bottle. But I can't remember the brand...
I don't know for sure, but I think it's best to mix per the bottle instructions. Obviously, we'll never have problems with it freezing But you might have trouble with it boiling if the mixture is too lean? _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Thanks Khal. Do you just get the off-the-shelf stuff they sell at KMart, Woolies, Super Cheap etc, or get something special it from somewhere in particular? _________________ TJ

Nah, I got it from the local no-name auto parts store. I just asked for the one the bloke thought was the best. I have no idea what it was.
I think they're all pretty decent in general. The Porsche Centre here in Bris. gets coolant supplied to them through Porsche. The bloke there says as long as you get a known brand that's suitable for alloy engines, you'll be fine (dunno if the the NA's have alloy heads?)
I think Tectaloy has a pretty decent rep. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |
