Just got a 79 924 for giving a guy my computer. When cleaning the car out I discovered the front right panel is rusted out on the bottom and I need a new one. I am trying to restore this car to brand new and could use all the tips/parts I can get my hands on. I also need a center console instrument cluster and I could also use a brown/tan door panel. Any help or suggestions is welcome. ^^ |

Your checkbook needs to be pretty full. I'd start with getting the engine and drive train up to par, and then worry about exterior and interior appearance. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

I think we all have had or have rusted out sections in this the weakest point on the car. Dirt collects in the joint and if you don't clean it often it will rust. As the original owner of a 1977.5 car I have experience this rust problem. It is the only place it has happened this drastically.
Rather than buy a new used fender I suggest that you have the rusted out section welded and then spray paint it black. While you are at it spran the entire bottom black. It is the cheapest way for you to go. You will not have to paint the fender either. You can do the bondo work yourself. Welding may be a problem for you but do it this way.
The other rust spot to occur is the area under the headlights on the part that is the extention of the header or the part where the emblem is.
Other areas are under the drip rails. Move just enough to wear away the paint and then rust sets in.
The same with the windshield surround. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Thans for the input! I actually already have the engine in a machine shop being rebuilt. The welding of the rusted section does make a lot more sense seing as how it really isn't that big of a spot. I am pretty much planning on converting this car to EFI using the megasquirt and supercharging it. I don't know how much of a cleanup I want to do on the drive train because I am going to see if it can handle about the 300-320HP this car will have and if it can't I am just going to use the 944 drivetrain. I'll try to keep my progress up to date. ^^ _________________ why does it even matter? |
