Hey Guys!

Rainy days are about to come, and i cant solve these simple, yet annoying wiper problems.

My Wipers are going only at one speed. When i shift into a higher speed, the wipers wipe at the same speed, no change

Shouldnt the wipers go back to their original position, if i turn them off while they are midway through ??? When i turn them off, they just stop, instead of going back!!

The intermitent system looks like a screw up: When i engage the system, the wipers just move 1 cm about every 30 seconds or so. I think this problem is related to the "Wiper Reset" or what ever you call it.

Sorry for all of these questions, but i need to sort them out before it starts to rain like hell.

Your soonest reply is much appreciated...

xpernet

I had this _exact_ problem in my last car which was a Mitsubishi. I replaced the wiper motor to fix the problem. The 924 wiper motor looks pretty similar to the one I replaced.

My wipers will do all these things if I remove the wiper relay, so suspect a missing or no-good relay.

Here again, I'd suspect a bad relay or it could be something like no relay installed combined with a bad ground at the wiper switch (at the 3 or 4 screws that hold it in place).

Thanx for the replies guys

As for the wiper motor, i removed it, cleaned it, greased it, cleaned the grounds, and then assembled it. Nothing Happened, but that was about a month or so. Ill try to check out the relays tommorow.

What type of relay that the wipers use (10A 15A 20A etc..), because i am sure that ill not find it there!!!

You can't use a generic relay of the correct amp rating, just in case that's what you were thinking.
By the picture in Haynes, it should be in the bottom row of relays, 4th from the left (above fuses 9-10), but placement of relays varies by year and yours could be somewhere else. Part number on it should be 477955531 or 477955531A. If you don't have it, and feel you really need it, a new 477955531A is $72.79usd. 477955531 is supposedly no longer available.

Xpernet,

I know this is only adding to the list of possible causes, but I had the same or a very similar problem on my car, which turned out to be a bad contact in the wiper switch around the steering column. I had to (carefully!) bend the brass contacts out a little to make proper contact.

I mention this because a fault like this can be a bitch to find.

Having said that, the most likely cause is the relay, as Smoothie says.
