hey guys,
tomorrow morning (in about 9 hours) I'm checking out a 944 for a new interior and to scavenge the brake conversion parts
just some questions I have beforehand.
what is the minimal rotor thickness for 944 ('84) rotors to have them turned down?
I read somewhere it is okay to use my old ('84 924 NA) mastercilinder. is this true? it would be much easier to go with the existing brakeline arrangement (the diagonal split)
how do I remove the rearseats?
hope to get some info
thanks in advance!

The rotors are the least of the problems. You can get them reasonably cheap. If the interior and the brake mounting points are good and you can get it for $500 or less you are saving money. .. Seats are worth almost that much. _________________ Glenn Neff

There is only about 1.5-2.0mm between a new rotor, and a worn-out rotor on both the front and the rear disc brakes. New front and rear rotors only cost about $55-$60 each.
The front rotors are bolted to the wheel hubs from the rear, so they aren't that easy to remove in the field. To get the front wheel hubs, you will have to take the front rotors, regardless of their condition.
You can use the existing diagonal brake lines. No need to replumb the 924. Take the complete struts with the steering knuckles if the strut cartridges are good. they will bolt directly into the 924. You will need the brake flex line in the front, the four wheel disc brake front flex lines are longer.
For the rear you will need the parking brake cables. You can unbolt the complete disc brake setup on eack side. Grab the wheel spacers (you need them). Remove the axle nuts, pull the rotors, remove the wheel hub with wheel studs (you need the wheel hubs, ans lug nuts), and taking the four bolts that mount the bearing cap/parking brake/splash assemblies to the trailing arms. Leave the parking brake cables attached to the parking brake assemblies, and disconnect at the forward end to remove from the car. You need the rigid brake line that connects to the rear calipers, and run along the trailing arms. |
