Pulled the engine from the parts car I picked up, took about 4 hours, not nearly as bad a job as I had expected...

Hay that looks just like my engine stand.
I done that not 2 days ago but I pulled the 4 bolts from the torque tube instead. It all started to replace the clutch but ended up pulling apart the whole thing wile cleaning it. Good thing I did, I found the #2 ring on the #4 cylinder busted. Looks like the PO done a rebuild recently. I think he may have even put new pistons in. Must not have checked the ring gap before assembly. The cylinder walls were ok so I redone the crosshatching replaced the rings and reassembled. Hope to have it on the road by the end of the week.
Good luck with your project. Jim _________________ 1980 931

Wasn't that fun!!
Check that right side motor mount before you reinstall. There is a good chance that the spring inside of it is broken. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

Yeah, it was kind of fun. We were thinking of pulling the 4 bolts at the torque tube as well, but decided to go the conventional route. This engine will be on a stand for a bit while I tinker and learn, break it down and rebuild and then install it in my 924. The body of the car it came out of has a few more items I will strip off before it goes to the scrap heap. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Yeah, fix up the engine is the plan, the body itself is going to a scrap yard unless smoeone in Edmonton wants to take it for free. I'd like to rebuild the engine slowly over the next few years, a bit of a learning exercise. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |
