87 octane gas is fine for that car and tire pressure is ~28psi, it should say in the inside of the door jam.

For tire pressure, look at the tires you have. It should be near 32 psi. And you can use a lower octane. Here we have 89, 91 and 93. I use 93, although I really don't think I need it. I think most guys here use "low grade" unleaded fuel.

I have a '77 Martini & Rossi. The owner's manual recommends 26 lbs. and premium gasoline. I run about 28. Anything over that and the ride gets pretty rough. Stock tires by the way. The best I can get in Phoenix is 91 octane and the car runs fine on it. I tried 87 octane and I got a lot of surging under 40 mph.

Tire technology has advanced a great deal since these cars were put on the road. The pressures written in the Owners Manual and on the car's stickers were written with those 20+ year old tires in mind. Grant it, the numbers for todays "modern" tires may not be far off, but you can't take those old inflation values as gospel.

Octane rating is another story. I'd use whatever the manual and stickers indicate. If your car starts to ping under load, go to the next higher grade.

This thread <click> is a rather "spirited" one that covers a myriad of topics, to include tire pressures and octane ratings.
