Yesterday I suggested to my friend that we should go on a road trip this weekend down to lake tahoe, which from where we live is a 19 hour drive non-stop. At first she was all excited, until she asked who's car we'd be taking. I suggested mine, the 924. Her excitment dissapeared and said that she didn't want to go now, I asked why not, and she told me because on a 19 hour drive, we'd swap driving while the other slept, which is like whatever. Then she went on to say, "I don't want to drive your car, because it's got too much power in acceleration it scares me. The front end lifts up like it's jumping forward and I don't like it, so no, I don't want to go on a roadtrip with your car." She has a 2004 honda civic, which I have driven, the car has issues, it doesn't seem to get any power until about 5 grand, but in first and second the engine cuts out at 3. Anyway ... I thought it was funny hearing someone say that my 924 had too much power. _________________ 1980 n/a with EDIS and Megasquirt II Injection v2.684 betacode.

Let her ride in my Bronco for a few miles and she will think your 924 is a slug <LOL> ... Yeah .. I can make the front tires lift on the bronco... but corner?? Nope. _________________ Glenn Neff

isn't a 2005 civic way faster than a 924? most new cars are faster than a 924 n/a.
plus i wouldn't go on a roadtrip with a old 924 if it isn't in perfect mechanical condition. it would suck if something went wrong on the highway. _________________ 78 924 sold.

first off it's 2004 and it's an utter piece of crap ... like I said, it has issues, brand new off the lot. In fact, today it died and had to be towed to the dealership. As I also have said... I have driven it we took it on a roadtrip in July. On the highway between edmonton and calgary I wanted to see what it could do, it wouldn't go over 160kmph, and it took alot of work to get it up to that. I would take my 24 year old 924 over it any day.
I've taken my car on many road trips, my car has never failed me while on a road trip, she waits until I get her back in the driveway. And in reality, any car could leave you stranded on the side of the highway, so why pick on the 924? You think your brand new car is mechanically sound, but little do you know it was made on a friday and something wasn't tightened.... oops there goes your car ... dead on the side of the road.
I have nothing against new cars, but my friends 2004 civic is a pos, and just thought it was amusing when she said that she was afraid of the power my car has. _________________ 1980 n/a with EDIS and Megasquirt II Injection v2.684 betacode.

Speaking of "built on friday" ... I had a "69 Camero in 1972 and when I went to install new speakers in the back I pulled the rear seat out and under the seat was a paper cup from the GMAC assembly plant full of screws! Did a bit of checking and found that hte plant employees were paid extra if they met a certain quota of screws installed....guess they didn't care if the were in the places they belonged or in a cup. ... Last GM product I ever owned. ... ( except for the 63 vette I kept) _________________ Glenn Neff

You're only complaint seemed to be the car had no power, pretty standard complaint for a Honda. I think most were looking at the reliability factor of most Hondas over the reliability of most 924's and responding accordingly. I'm pretty certain if you'd posted the specifics in your first post instead of later, you would've gotten a different set of responses.
No one's picking on the 924 but if I asked my wife to take a 19 hour road trip with me in the 924, she'd decline I'm sure. And certainly not for the reasons your friend gave.Whenever I propose we take the 924 for the two hour drive to her mother's house, I get a polite but firm response of: "I'd like to GET there". Even though my 924 has a better reliability record than her Tahoe.
You can always tell your "friend" that it's not a good idea to take the Honda right after she gets it out of the shop. It should be driven around town for a few days to be sure everything got sorted out before relying on it for a longer trip. |

LOL! Too funny.
I have to admit, working on Hondas, I'm very surprised to hear such reliability problems... The only thing better (for reliability, obviously) than a Honda IMO is a Toyota - you just have to learn to like Vanilla... _________________ Vaughan Scott

I just got a new Civic and for a 1.7 liter car it is peppy. It is the wifes car so I did not go crazy as in the past.
87 Acura legend sold at 90K
88 " " cpe sold at 225K
90 " " sedan " at 154K
On these car I never replaced any engine or tranny and no major problems with any of them.
I just went in and order the new car without seeing or driving the car. Complete faith in this marque. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"
