I once had an ignition coil go bad on another vehicle. It would start ok and idle fine, but had little power, misfiring badly once you started to move and put the engine under load.
If that's not your problem, I'd start by checking/replacing the distributor cap, rotor, plug wires and plugs. Make sure the gas is good/fresh/without water in the tank and also check for vacuum leaks. Might also need to check the timing and have the air:fuel mix checked.

I must agree, definitely sounds like an ignition problem.

I have had the same thing happen.

I did however replace all those things (cap, wires, and coil etc.) at once just because it could use it, so I can not tell you which components it was.

More than likely it is the coil going bad.

Good luck.
