Having got the 85 box I have been told that it might not be strong enough.

I was intending on taking out the old 931 snailshell type and swapping it for a 944 box for the better gearchange.

However I am now a little worried it might not stand the power or torque (205bhp and about 196ftlb). One guy over here claimsthey break under load.

Does anyone have any experience of these boxes in terms of common failures or strength. My sport involves a lot of tyre warming and standing starts. Anyone used them in a 931 for autocross etc?

Cheers
Simon

the G31 or snailshell will withstand the most, if you wish for the audi based units I would suggest using a 951 or 968 gearbox and you shouldnt have a problem, the 944 gearbox would be fine for street but I dont know about track events.
