When you say "Gets hot", do you mean all the way up into the red marked portion of the dial? Or just half way? Or 3/4?

Close to normal. Might try bleeding the cooling system. A bit of air trapped in the head will do that. A loose timing belt wil do it also. Timing belt drives the waterpump. _________________ Glenn Neff

Sprincey,
Sleykin pretty much hit in one, but I would add that if I were you, I'd either check the tension on the cam drive (which Sleykin refers to as a "timing" belt) immediately or have someone competent with 2.5 litre Porsches check it immediately if you don't have the tools to do it yourself. If it is the cam drive belt, you've got a lot to loose if it fails because the pistons and valves collide, and if it is loose, death of the belt may be quickly forthcoming.
I'd want to rule out the cam drive (timing) belt first, then bleed the air from the cooling system.

Sounds normal to me - in traffic queues, both mine do the same
I'd be a bit concerned if a car didn't overheat when the engine was running with little cooling airflow to the rad _________________ current - '90 944S2, '00 986S,

itll get hot real quicke without water you gotta have that the fan is supposed to turn on if thats all it does its cool you loosen up the knob and remove on the top hose from the thermostat and bleed off air that way
while filling the radiator .. something like that. My 924 is ancient a 79 I dont worry about the collision if a belt goes.. tension is something to think about. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
