That's my question. So I ordered those side panel decals from our friend over at porschedecals.com (anyone ever actually figure out where they're based? Europe somewhere right?). Anyway, they are very cool looking but I'm having second thoughts. Kinda thinking that the baby looks classy just the way it is - and the decals may just make her a bit too sporty lookin.
What do you all think? |

Yeah he's in Malta.
Personal taste on the decals, I really like the ones one my old girl, the look the era. But then again it's not the late 70's/early 80's anymore. My wife isn't so struck on them and thinks the car would look better without them.
I think either way the cars look good, I'd personally go the whole hog one way or another - either the full set with sides and rear or none at all. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

I'm still torn. I dig the looks of it - 5150's looks rad. I'm gonna take the babe down an detail shop to see if the paint on her can be brought back to life. If I get it done - I'll post the pics.
Thanks guys |

At least those were repros of stock stickers. Anything else belongs on a real racecar... I hate street cars with racing stickers (aka RICE!!!).
Actually, thanks for the reminder, I've got off my butt and ordered those stickers for the racecar... really needs some proper Porsche identification!!! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Never really liked the the big side decals myself. But I reckon that the long side decals in Porsche script can make the car look more taut, especially in red for some reason? Mine doesn't have them and from some angles she can look a bit "pregnant"! (No offence to the girls, nothing more sexy than a pregnant woman, etc ) It's just the body shape below the side trim line... With the decals it seems to make them look "slimmer" somehow. That's how it looks to me, anyway! _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

| If you don't like the look you can easily remove them. They're vinyl and come off easily with a hair dryer. |

I really like those side decals too. However, when carefully examining the books by Peter Morgan and the PET parts catalogue, I thought that the decals on the website of your Maltese friend are NOT identical to the original. The original does not feature a band above and below the word PORSCHE. The one sold by Prestige Parts in the UK has (imho) the correct outline. However, looking close at the pictures in the Morgan books the letters are not solid as the one by Prestige Parts, but hatched ( as it says in the PET too).
The decals are much, much more subtle when hatched instead of solid .
Can you confirm this 5150??
So I am still looking for a source for those original hatched ones.
Must be difficult to replicate.....
Anybody know something ??
Regards,
Duncan |

Tweaks used to have the original "hashed" design -- for the 79 I believe -- both on the tail and on the door sash. DK if they have these decals anymore. You can contact the dealer too. If there are any anywhere in the world, they can find them. I also recall seeing them in another catalog but can't quite place it..., will continue thinking about it.
Assuming these are not (c) Porsche, or if they don't care, you could take a high-res digipic of an original and have a sign shop make up a set, but that would be expensive (ask me how I know this...?). I have a guy that would match the original but it probably wouldn't be worth it unless there were several paying customers to fund the initial set-up. If you're serious, gather interested people, I can contact my guy regarding what it might cost, we can escrow the money, then have him do the work. I won't fund the project (amazing how "serious buyers" melt away when it is time to collect the money), but if there are enough people, I can help coordinate if you're interested. Just PM and LMK. |

Decals on mine are the hatched ones, yep, no lines above or below either. They're a fair bit bigger than the ones i've seen with the lines above and below too. They're also not so severe looking as they show a lot of the paint colour through the hatching. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a
