Hi Hale
There was a poll on this a while back and it seemed that most of us are running unleaded with no problems. I give my 78 unleaded most of the time, occasionally i'll fill up with Shell Optimax, but mostly i just use unleaded. Had no problems.
poll and discussion is here - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=10866 _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

Not as far as I know, 4-star had a higher octane rating so you should get a little extra power from 4 star, but I don't think there'd be any negative effects. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

Welcome Hale, I raised this question about 6 months ago for my 1981 924, to start with I ran on shell premium unleaded EXPENSIVE stuff so its just on normal unleaded now. Usually shell or some other good brand rather than the cheepo supermarket stuff.
Not had any problems but saying that I only use it at weekends probably only covered 1000 miles since I bought it |

I use 100 octane unleaded permanently in my Euro spec Turbo.
I wote to Porsche in Germany and spoke to the importer here, and both replied that there was no problem, provided the minimum octance was adhered to (98 on Euro spec cars)
It is expensive fuel by Greek standards at Euro 0.90 per litre, but I think its worth it for peace of mind against detonation.
