| Are you sure its the rack? Try to isolate the noise first before condeming it. |

Yes. I had my steering rack rebuilt through the local NAPA store. After replacing ALL steering components (except the rack)I took the car too the Dealership for what I thought would be the final alignment. For $195.00 Can. the Porsche Tech told me (after he had completed the alignment) that everything was tight except the steering rack had a little play in it. Said I would notice it most in strong cross winds and road ruts in the asphalt.
Sure enough I did notice the car had a tendency to wander even though aligned too spec. $300.00 Can. to have the steering rack rebuilt and the cost of another alignment and no more wander. Once you have eliminated all other sources of play in your steering it is possible (after 20 or more years) for the steering rack to have developed some play. _________________ Doodle

I notice ALOT of wandering especially inwind and uneven pavement.Tie rod ends are new, front springs and struts are new and it has a new bearing in the steering column so I can only guess it's the rack. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive
