I'm working on an old 6 hp sears riding lawnmower and I'm having a problem with the carb leaking. I've rebuilt the carb with all new seals, screws, float and pin valve. Now the obvious thing is that the float needs to be adjusted so that the fuel flow stops before the bowl overflows and fuel starts flowing out of the overflow hole. Well I've adjusted the float so it shuts off amost as soon as it comes off of the bottom of the bowl and that hasn't helped. I know the pin valve seats because I can lift it gently with my finger and fuel will stop flowing. Double checked to make sure the float actually floats and it is coming up. Anyone got any ideas?

At last, a question for us old air-cooled guys out there
A lot of the old Sears mowers used Clinton (they start up, but they don't inhale!) engines. Those had spring loaded bowl drains that often leaked. Check for an external spring pin on the bottom of the bowl. The gasket (or O ring, depending on age) is inside the bowl, and tricky to change.

This one has a Tecumseh motor on it. I'm not quite sure what you are reffering to as far as a spring loaded bowl drain. There is a screw in the bottom of the bowl for adjusting fuel mixture and it has a spring on it but that should have nothing to do with it leaking just sitting there. The bowl gasket is new as noted above I've rebuilt the entire thing already.
