Just got the estimate on my car. Said it took them 7 hours to tear the head off and replace the timing belt. I've bent 5 out of 8 valves. They are sending it away to get machined. $1400....is that a bit high for just rebuilding/machining the head? I told him to give me an exact reciept step by step, part by part. The bolts will be all new because the old ones were "frozen".

Stop

Call the shop have them stop with just a machined
head maybe if you get on it now they can stop.
and look for a used unit. Or just pay the bill and
enjoy.

I presume most of the bill is in labor to pull the head- which can be a real pain on the 931 if you come across stripped/frozen exhaust nuts. Not to mention real sodium-filled turbo valves aren't particularly cheap. I'm not too surprised. However, if you DIY you would probably save almost $1k even after paying the machine shop for the r&r.

Hi: I have two 931 heads in good condition. If you can stop the machine shop adventure, I can sell you one for $300.00 which includes shipping to Medford, OR. Dick Price.
