Question about your item
HI Guys: Just received the following response to one of my 924 ads. The phone prefix indicats it comes from Nigeria ... how interesting!! Obviously, this is the "worn out" phony cashiers check scam. How can I jerk this guy's chain a bit? Problem is - if he buys the car I have wasted a $43.00 listing fee. Or, should I report him to EBAY immediately. Suggestions?? Dick Price
Dear jaxrepo,
I am an auto agent interested in immediate purchase of your item. After several consideration over the advert placed on the website,my client has really shown interest in it and would really want to issue the payment in form of Cashiers Check. Will you be accepting a Cashiers Check? The cashiers check that will be drawn by my client would include the cost for shipping this item to my client and my commission would be included on the same Cashiers Check. We shall solely be responsible for the shippment of the item. Please contact me asap via email for futher questions as regards this transaction or call me on +2348023810186 if you really show willingness in selling this item asap.Thank You and I am expecting your response asap _________________ 83/86 944 Parts cars (2)

I recommend responding that cashiers checks are NOT accepted and that you ONLY accept PAYPAL or international money orders in US funds. _________________ 3 928s, |

This is one of the oldest ones in the book.
I would either a) ignore him and report to ebay (probably best, not that they actually do anything about it) or b) tell him to f*** off, put him on your "banned" list and report him to ebay -- but then he'll know your email addy is a "live" one and you may end up on every spam list known to man.
I'd probably go with (a). Just MHO. |

Update: I reported him to EBAY (waste of time) & added his EBAY handle to my blocked bidder list. He has already bought 2 cars on EBAY within the last week. A couple of people are about to be fleeced. His EBAY ID is elder009. I do kinda like Lizard's suggestion, but no, I'll just lay low. Dick Price. _________________ 83/86 944 Parts cars (2)

I got one of these when selling my SHO. I told him my last offer was $21,995.00 and that if he could beat that, its his. Never heard back? Guess he didn't want to pay 22k for a 12 year old Taurus! _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

I might quietly and anonymously ping the other sellers and suggest they google "nigerian certified check scam" so they can figure it out on their own. You wouldn't want to be accused of "interfering" with an auction. Besides, if you ask ebay to do an ID check, this ID will be NARU'd by this afternoon, if not sooner. That's a generally reliable signal to even the most obtuse seller that something's amiss.
Good catch. |
