Just got the estimate on my car. Said it took them 7 hours to tear the head off and replace the timing belt. I've bent 5 out of 8 valves. They are sending it away to get machined. $1400....is that a bit high for just rebuilding/machining the head? I told him to give me an exact reciept step by step, part by part. The bolts will be all new because the old ones were "frozen". _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Stop
Call the shop have them stop with just a machined
head maybe if you get on it now they can stop.
and look for a used unit. Or just pay the bill and
enjoy. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

I presume most of the bill is in labor to pull the head- which can be a real pain on the 931 if you come across stripped/frozen exhaust nuts. Not to mention real sodium-filled turbo valves aren't particularly cheap. I'm not too surprised. However, if you DIY you would probably save almost $1k even after paying the machine shop for the r&r.

Hi: I have two 931 heads in good condition. If you can stop the machine shop adventure, I can sell you one for $300.00 which includes shipping to Medford, OR. Dick Price. _________________ 83/86 944 Parts cars (2)
