Ok, I found the 12 point socket things, I got out the shifter.
I got off the bellhousing bolts, everything is going perfect. But then...it just won't come out. I can't seperate the tranny from the bellhousing.
Once again, the problem is my darn DRIVESHAFT! For some reason it won't come out. Do I need the remove the whole coupler to get it to disengage from the tranny shaft? I just removed the allen bolt on the torque tube side, because removing both seemed redundant.
I can rotate the whole torque tube/bellhousing assembly around the driveshaft, but I just can't pull it off. This is really getting to me...
Please, help! Somehow!! My tranny is perched picariously right now on a jack...

Alright, moderately less agitated now.
I'm going to tackle this tommarow after work. I did get the bell housing about 1 CM from the tranny, so I think I'll just pry tommarow, and hope for the best.

Yes remove both bolts from the coupler then slide the coupler back towards the transmission it makes it easier to remove because you don't have to pull the trans back as far. _________________ 80 924

If possible re-attach at least a couple of the bolts holding the trans to the bellhousing. Don't need more than a couple and they don't have to be real tight. However, you should snug the trans back up to the bellhousing.
Remove both cap/allen head bolts on the coupler. Remove them both completely.
Use a pry bar and slide the coupler onto the input shaft of the transmission. This will completely disconnect the transmission shaft from the drive shaft. With luck you have not already bent either shaft.
Now remove the bolts holding the trans to the bellhousing.
The transmission must be lowered and moved back while lowering the back more the the front. This allows room to disengage the plastic 'pipe' which surrounds the shift linkage passthrough and the clear the back of the transmission at the spare tire space. _________________ John

are you supporting the tranny at all with a jack or something? if not that makes it 10 times harder to get out. Of course as everyone else has said sliding the coupler over will help a lot. _________________ -'87 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L 6" of lift 33" Super Swampers
