At this moment there are two water cooled Porsches that I´m thinking of buying.
One is a Guards Red 1988 951 at 20.000 U$s
The other is a black 944 2.7 1988 at 16.000 U$S
Both are nice car probably the 951 the better one but...
I need to buy the one that is cheaper to own and mantain because my budget is very very tight.
I now own a 924 and a Peugeot 307 and one of them will have to go
What can you tell about owning and maintaining these beauties??'

The 944 is less expensive to maintin, but neither one is "cheap". In the US a 944 will run between $1,500 and $3,000 per year for normal up-keep.
A clutch job on either of the two is an absolute nightmare. The only thing worse than a 944 clutch job is a 951 clutch job. Expect at least $500 (US) in parts and $800 (US) in labor if you find a very cheap place to get it done. It is not uncommon for parts and labor together to hit $2,000 for a 944 clutch job. Turbo is more.
If money is really tight, neither car is advisable. _________________ Shifting is an art, learn it, love it, live it.

| is the 924 na a lof cheaper to maintain than a 944 even if you don't do any of the mechanical work yourself and take it to a shop? i woul think yes cus the 944 you would definately have to take it to a porsche shop but the 924 u don't have to for most things right? this is the main reason i got the 924 instead of the 944, cus i hear about crazy maintenance cost even for a tuneup like timing belt change and water pump change can cost a 1000 or more at a porsche shop. |
