Well, I have a friend from England here at work who drives a Mustang GT Convertable. Very nice looking car...
So I was taking a walk down the road during my lunch break, and had just turned around and begun the trek back to the office when he pulled over across the street and asked if I wanted a lift. Of course, I'm not one to turn down a ride in a Mustang convertable on a gorgeous day, so I accept the offer.
I jump into the passenger seat, and before I can buckle my seatbelt, he's off. I note the great sounding exhaust, and keep trying to work with the belt. After a few seconds, I give up, and make a mental note to ask him to wait for a second while I click in the next time I drive with him.
Turning forward, determined to enjoy the ride anyways, I notice something odd, but I just can't put my finger on it. Looking ahead at a green tractor-trailer coming towards us I quickly realize what the problem is.
That giant green truck isn't just coming towards us, it's in the same lane as us!
My English pal had inadvertantly slipped into euro-driving mode, and was on the left side of the road. EEP!
I yelled "WRONG LANE" once, to no avail. Truck continues approaching. The second time I yell it, something clicks in his head, and we avoid dying. Upon reentering the correct lane he says. "Wow, never done that before!!"
In retrospect, it's actually a sorta amusing story, but man, if he hadn't changed lanes, I would be QUITE dead eh? Convertable sports car, no seatbelt, head-on with a giant truck. (Shudder)
Anyways, thought you boys might enjoy the tale!

Hi !
Damn !
What a story !
Its reading sent me shivers down my spine !
But, just a little correction...
In Europe, people drive at the right of the road, only the English people drive at the left.
Anyway, I think someone's gonna have a very very good night, tonight !
Uh, little question...
What time is it, in USA ?...

Hah, sorry. As you can tell I have not traveled abroad at all. Not because I'm unwilling however! Simply due to...finances...
Here it's 5:45 PM, in Cali it's 2:45.

a woman I met from the UK said that she drove in europe a lot and often had to switch between left-hand roads and right hand ones.. she said that she made a little sign with an arrow on it and stuck it on the dash board above the steering wheel.
on left hand roads she would make it point left (and vice versa), which reminded her both what side to drive on as well as which way to go at roundabouts etc..
she said it was quite effective _________________ it's funny, but when they said "Anything is Possible", that's exactly what they meant.... |
