| That is just around the corner from me. Not sure I'm in a position to figure out the tinkering, though. What would need to be done to check? |

I am not sure , I guess the shaft size and spline count for the shafts it connects to , whether male or female , and the bolt holes for the ring and pinion mount . a few members have worked on there traniies , maybe they could help here ?
since eventually all the 924's are going to need a tranny rebuild , and paying porsche a premium ,to get VW OEM parts ,simply because porsche is keeping it a secret which vw parts they used ,does not make alot of sense . I think most of the 924 tranny parts are from the vw type II tranny , and the vw lsd units sell for $150 - 300 NEW . not to mention the seals and syncrchros and the possibility of changing the gear ratios in the 924 to get a more useful first gear better acceleration and or more fuel economy by using cheap vw parts ,it just makes sense for us ,as a community, to try and put this together ,by identifying which vw parts we need . AndyFranklin ,if you are willing to go and get that tranny and take it apart , I'll put up $50 to help pay for it , hopefully it will sell for less than that , in which case I'll pay for it . we will need 924 tranny parts and/or measurements to compare to . who has a tranny and or parts already or soon to be out of there 924/S/31 ? anyone else interested in helping with this project ? there are a few special tools and jigs that are needed to dis and reassemble these trannies , anybody have the ability to make them ? I think there fairly simple but some metal working tools are needed . |

I have a stock 924 diff out of a 5-speed which we can compare with. We pulled it out to swap in a 951 LSD. I'm up in Detroit, of course.
I could dig out that from storage and provide dimensions. _________________ Vaughan Scott

| that depends on whether or not you or someone else is going to put up $50 or so dollars to win the item . we dont neccesarily need to buy/own a trans . we just need a week or so to examine 1 . are there any VW bbs boards like ours , maybe we could post on thier parts 4 sale/wanted section to look at/borrow a vw type II trans . I would think even a bad trans would give us the needed info . what do you think ? |

Placed a max of $85 - currently high bidder at $81.
Vaughn - are you coming to Mid-O for the PCA may 8-9? If you are I could pass it off to you to check against the one you have out. Or we take it apart Saturday night.
If we win this thing I thought we could get the address of the other interested parties from the seller and contact them when we are done. |

No, I don't really do the PCA events. Good work!
I need to get to my storage unit and grab the old diff to take measurements. _________________ Vaughan Scott
