|
|
Ok, I have a 77' 924, and the driveshaft cutting idea, but with the driveshaft there, I can't find the diameter of the inside of the torque tube. There's a sorta cylinder that protrudes by .5 cm or so on the motor, and it looks like it might JUST fit, and my rough calculations made it look like it would work.
Anyways, does someone have a torque tube out of the their N/A 924 that they can measure the inner-diameter of? (IE diameter of the cavity) Else, does someone know where I can find that info?
Thanks,

The driveshaft itself is 20mm, and the bearings around it are tight, if that helps, inside diameter of the torque tube is a great deal larger than 20mm. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924 "S"

Well using a tape measure to measure one of the rubber bushings the bearings sit in I get 3 inches. If you need a more acurate measurment let me know and I'll see if I can find my dial caliper. _________________ 80 924

Don't like being a bother, but more accurate would be excellent.
Right now from my ROUGH measurements using too much math and effort I got 3.1555 for the shaft hole and 3.1875 for my motor cylinder. I think the outside is tapered out too, so it might not be a problem. My "measurement" are for the leading edge. I think I could always sand .2 inches though, there's plenty of metal there.
Thanks!!!

Hey, actually, anyone know how much larger the beginning of the hole is then the rest of the torque tube, and how deep that taper extends at what rate?
Thanks guys. I'm sure this is in some techincal guide somewhere...

the taper on the engien die of the torque tube is only about 1/4" into the shaft and that acts as a guide for the 3 pins which sit in the back side of the bellhousing _________________ 3 928s, |

I came up with 3.02 to 3.03 inches after the taper. _________________ 80 924

Ok, thanks a bunch folks.
Looks like this 3 mm protruding cylinder on the motor is 3.25 inches, so I'll have to do about a bit more then a 1/4 inch of sanding a very short way to make this fit. Still, this is going to work out great...
...I think!

Vince, you are welcome to man, once I get this thing running I won't be able to stop showing off!
Hartford is just a short ride, it's only about 45 minutes away. Infact, as we speak my Grandmother is visiting from there. Hell, she made it here at 40 Mph in her giant Caddy!
