I finally got around to installing the hood shock conversion kit I got from performance last year. When I opened it up, I got a shock - No Instructions . However, the forum to the rescue, one of you fine folks, and I'm sorry but I don't remember who it was, had a great thread complete with pics. I did as it shows and it sure is fantastic. With a lack of natural head-covering material, I'm tired of scaring my bonnett holding the hood up while I put things down to set the rod. Of courese, being practical, I've kept the rod for when I'm spending too much time under the hood.
As notes, I didn't have to reset the hinges, none of the rear lip lift some have had. Also, my hood has twisted over the years of being on the rod. Now, it is nice and even when open. I did go with the lifetime shocks from Performance,....we will see how long "lifetime" is.
Cheers;

Yeah they work slick. I bought the shocks, and fabricated my own mounts . I went to the junk yard and cut the "balls" from a buick and welded them to stainless mounts, then installed both shocks on the new mounts. Yes now my hood sits straight, and doesn,t droop any more. _________________ I have a 78 n\a currently under restoration. |

mine seem to last about 2 years, then loose their umph.. im ready to install set number three since i did the conversion...
on the 931, they run very close to the fuel lines, i cut up some old rubber hose slit lengthwise to protect the fuel lines from rubbing, just in case... _________________ Eric
