I finally completed the rear lens upgrade (this is the one where the word "PORSCHE" is lit up at night).
Completion of this project completes the exterior restoration/upgade (except for new tires) and the interior restoration/upgrade is now complete except for the 944 steering wheel which I can't seem to find.
This is a totally different car than the one I started with and now I will shift my focus to the engine/transmission. The restoration came in under budget thanks to this site and many of you. I sincerely appreciate this site and everyone who has helped with this project.
Like many of you, I will continue to work on the car but I have far exceeded my goals with this restoration and this is one fine 924 _________________ -Stu

Now you just need the 5 bolt swap or the spiderwebs. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924 "S"

I agree with the 5-bolt swap for the better brake upgrade and better wheel selection. IMHO, spiderwebs are not that good looking. If any change from stock, there are much better choices! _________________ 1978 924 n/a |

The brake upgrade is not high on my list (frankly, it isn't even on the list at this time). However, I wouldn't mind 4 bolt spiders if I could find them at the right price.
If I did go with the 5 bolt, I would use the 15" phone dials like those on my 924S. _________________ -Stu

As far as the brake change to 944 brakes it is not that important for a street car. I used to track my 77 with the disc/drum setup and it was great. I used Jim Pashas advice and changed rotors every three brake pads. Being a momentum car I did not use the brakes that much.
As for the spiders I have a set of 4 bolt for sale. They come with race rubber.
email me off line if you want them and we can make arrangements for del. etc. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

You're lucky. That car came with some nice upgrades.
There are two types of rear panels. The first is an inexpensive reflective panel that simply bolts on using the original license plate holes. The second is the more expensive lighted reflector panel that requires additional drilling and wiring.
If yours lights up, you have a nice upgrade.
IMO, the license plate belongs on the bumper and that is where Porsche should have put it. _________________ -Stu

Yeah they do look very nice. I had to fix the wiring when i got it and it made a hell of a difference. _________________ 90 944 S2

I have traded away 2 (two) of the lighted pannels in the past. I think there is enough on the car already that says PORSCHE.

in my opionion it does need the rear panel, and red tail lights, then it looks WAY better _________________ 3 928s, |

My 924 has a light panel and it would be off except that it's beige under there (car was originally beige and is now white). I don't really like the light panels either, but it depends on the color of the car to some degree. _________________ Jon Furst |

You can get a panel that says "924", "Turbo", or simply blank. It doesn't have to say "Porsche". _________________ -Stu

I honestly don't understand how anyone could not like the panel. The car looks incomplete without them and I have always thought Porsche screwed up by placing the license plate in that location. I think the photo above shows the car as it should be. _________________ -Stu
