Electic windows are an easy upgrade. You'll need the motors and regulators (both sides are different), the wiring harness & relay, plus the three switches. If you can't source everything from a local salvage yard or Board member, all the parts except for the wiring harness are normally available on e-Bay.
I don't believe that a factory installed central locking, or a keyless entry system was ever available for the 924/944, but I suspect that in todays day-and-age an aftermarket supplier could be found. I see stuff like that in many aftermarket automotive catalogs. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

Keyless entry is easy enough to install. It involves adding a motor to the locking mechenism. However the dirvers side door lock will need to be modified. Since it has a feature that it can only be locked with the key. Unlocking would not be a problem. _________________ 1981 924 NA

I bought an alarm system that had the door lock/unlock relay built in. The only other pieces I had to buy were the lock actuator motors ($14.00 each @ Princess Auto) and some wire. As Roger suggests you have to disable the lock with key only feature on the drivers side door. I did this, but unfortunately now can't remember exactly how I did it. If you need further info, let me know, since I currently have the door panels off I can check for you. This solution provided me with all the latest security features. Doors lock/unlock with either the remote or key, interior light comes on when system is dis-armed and stays on for 30 seconds or until key is inserted in ignition, doors lock automatically 3 seconds after car is started, etc. _________________ Doodle

hey doodle thanks for the info and keep it coming, it sound like you have a decent system in there, do you think the alarm would interfer if i went with remote windows later?
Also, would adding all these electrical components put a strain on my battery? I dont have any interior lights (that i know of) but i do have a built in radar detector (have no idea how/if it works) _________________ looking for a great one...... |

No, I don't think the alarm would interfere when the time comes for you to look at power windows. Alarms draw a miniscule amount of continuous current.
I would however take seriously the recommendations of everyone else who has offered an opinion and do at the very least some serious maintenance on your wiring. Your car, like mine, is now 27 years old. The wiring of lesser cars would have long ago ceased too perform the function of supplying all important electricity when and where needed.
The original wiring on my car had been hacked more than once before I got it and particularly in the engine compartment, tended to lose insulation at the merest touch. Ultimately I opted too rebuild and upgrade with much higher temp. wire, all the wiring harnesses in the car. I'm happy to say I no longer have any wiring issues.
At the very least for now, take the time too carefully clean up all the ground contacts and wire connectors. You might also, before you get too heavily involved in electrical upgrades, want too look at a new fuse box. There's a lot of copper pathways and connectors inside this black box that are all subject too the same type of corrosion and fatigue/resistance that comes with old age. New boxes are relatively inexpensive compared too the number or electrical mysteries a replacement unit can solve. _________________ Doodle
