Here is a thought.

Since AMC made there own head and intakes for our motors.

Couldn't we work with the AMC head and just add just come up with a modified intake manifold? I havent looked at the AMC head, but if it has more material to work with, then we could make an outstanding 8v head.

I could care less if it wasnt an orginal fuel injection setup, heck you could even just drill and tap the intake that came on the AMC for injectors, then wire up the injection system. Just like converting a V8 from carb to port injection with a TB. We just use the 924 or 931 stuff add turbo and go.
