I’m sure this has come up before, but I was unable to find the post(s) that tell how to tell if a car is a 77 or a 77.5. The VIN for my car is 9247204984. Thanks for the help!

Also, this site is awesome. I’ve been a long time visitor to the site, and the advice here has helped make my beloved car run better, and add to the overall enjoyment of owning a Porsche.

Lurking, but not posting, hey! Well, speak up, eh?

As for making the split, it can be hard to say for sure without checking the engine code, in my experience. I did think my first 924, the '77, was an early '77 as the sticker in the door sill stated a build month of May and I thought the engine code was XF, but then checking the engine code showed that it was an XE engine IIRC, which is the later, the '77.5. Engine codes starting with XG and XE are the later '77.5, and engine codes starting with XF and XH are the early half, according to the 924/944 FAQ:

Look for the build date sticker in the driver's doorjam.

If the car was built after Dec.76, it is a 77.5.
