I use a tool made specific for this purpose that fits on a 3/8" rachet.
It is marked 12mm. |

12mm allen head. Get a 12mm socket, allen wrench and attach it to a 3/8 ratchet as Gohim suggests. If you ruin the injector holder and have to use a tap and chase the threads before installing the new holder it's 24mm x 1.50 . A new tap is about 26 dollars. _________________ I have a 78 n\a currently under restoration. |

From my experience, the injector holders are usually loose in the threads, and ready to finish unscrewing.
If you do not have the later type dark orange plastic injector inserts, buy some and replace your old ones. They are used on watercooled four cylinder VWs, so you can buy them anywhere (same as the injector seals, get the green viton injector seals whille you at it).
They was some kind of non-hardening sealer on the inserts from the factory, but it has usually shrunk, and the seal has failed on the inserts that I have examined, so I always install the newer inserts.
When some of the original sealer is still on the reads after pulling the old inserts, I simply run a fingernail in the threads. I don't want to take a chance on dropping any metal shavings down the holes and into the engine by way of the valves.
I use a teflon based non-hardening sealer from Permatex when I reinstall inserts. |

Thanks for the tips guys. I've got the new orange inserts, green rubber o-rings and new injectors ready to go in, just a matter of getting to it this weekend... _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

if the injector gets chewed up(like mine did) then it works well to take a wide knife and kinda jam it in there and screw it out with that. i used gasket in a can to seal the injector bushings, the permatex non hardening teflon sealer ended up leaking a couple of weeks after i sealed the bushings which i found odd, but the gasket in a can worked really well. _________________ 90 944 S2

Anyone have pics of the plastic injector inserts you are talking about and the injector with the seals for reference? Also, don't the new injectors come with seals?
Thanks, Phil _________________ "Get In, Sit Down, Hold On AND SHUTUP!" |

If you go to any of the Internet Supplier Websites you can get a look at the injector inserts either as a VW or Porsche part.
No, injector seals are not included with new injectors (at least not with Bosch Injectors, which are all I use). But they are cheap anyway. The price runs about $1 to $2 each. |

Thanks. The reason I asked is a quote I got was for the "injector with seal" $92, and one for just the injector, $49???????????? Go figure!

Those prices are wrong.
Injector = $40 each
Seal = $1 each
Insert = $3 each
Prices in Canadian dollars... _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |
