how exactly do I turn the cable drive to confirm the numbers are moving around?

you could use a drill to spin it.

any recommendation for the type of bulb wattage i should use thatll work with the current wires?

What are they... like 1.2 watt bulbs in there now - I forget, but some have gone to brighter bulbs, like 2 watt or whatever. The increase in current draw isn't significant. It's been talked about before. A search should get you the correct wattages.

Exacalary - to test the speedo - use a drill that can be run in reverse... put a medium square drive screwdriver bit in it.

thanks. everything seems to be working. before i fire up my car, can someone clarify to me on how I can prevent short wiring the speedo and tach
