My 77 924 came with some very cheap side mirrors that were added by the previous owner. Does anyone know where to find decent mirrors that belong on the 924? I'm tired of the plastic junk currently on the car and would like to get something that won't fold up when the car is in a strong head wind.

Thanks

I just got these a while back. I like the look. They are plastic but stay in one place.
The only drawback is you need to mount them forward in new holes.
I have them mounted in the original holes right now but they will look better further up.
I'm re-painting and doing bodywork so some more holes to fill does not matter to me.

I hate to tell you this... But the base 924 model came with a single, cheap, black plastic manual mirror.

The right hand mirror was optional.

The big power mirrors weren't even an option until '78. Do your mirrors look like this:

That is an original '77 passenger mirror. I had another '77 where the previous owner had installed the "racing" mirrors in the link above- they were horrible.

If you need the passenger mirror I'm selling this one for ~$15.

Nick, the mirrors I have look nothing like the one you are holding in the picture. Mine do not have the extension post, so they sit very low on the doors (in what I think are the original mounting holes) - the passenger one can barely be used since most of the image is not visible because it sits so low. By the way, your picture obscurred your last line in your reply. Any suggestions as to where to find the one like you have????? I'm getting ready to paint the car in a month or so, so if I have to drill new mounting holes, that won't be a problem.

Thanks

Was this the line that got cut off? :

"If you need the passenger mirror I'm selling this one for ~$15. "

Sorry, I didn't keep the driver's side. You should be able to find one though. These mirrors really work pretty nicely. They're about 10x lighter (no kidding) than the power mirrors and the angles give you a pretty good rear view.

Nick,
Out of interest, how much does that mirror weigh? Which models was it found on? Will it mount up to my power mirror holes?

Thanks in advance,
Ian

It probably weighs in at around a pound. The power ones are maybe ~ 5lbs or so (from the bicep scale). These mirrors are stock on 924's up to mid '78 or so. I'm not sure about the mounting holes. The power mirrors have 3 holes in the door while these manual units just have two holes where a nut/bolt attach them. The rectangular metal plate shown in the pic is the reinforcement on the inside of the door.

Ian, the manual and power windows use different mounting plates and a different layout for the holes. The "footprint" of the power mirrors will cover the holes of the manual mirrors, but I don't think the manual one will cover the mounting holes of the power mirror.

Compare these pages from the factory manuals and note the dimensions that are shown.

Those images don't really work for me. The link is ok, but it doesn't translate to an image.

Hmmm, don't know what's up, the link is OK for me...

Try this and this for the FULL sized imags (caution, large files).

If all else fails, click here, they are photos 57-8 and 57-11

Thanks for that!

I suspect i will have this problem with any kind of 'lighter' mirror.

Needs some further investigation I think.

Cheers,
Ian

Nick,
I would be interested in purchasing that passenger door mirror from you. Please e-mail me with how you want payment for shipping/packing etc. Thanks
