one of the wires that run into the distributor (the grey one) has been cut by the part that spins around that the rotor connects to. The reason this happened is because the black plastic clip that holds the wires in places was broken by the previous owner and it was taped in place with electrical taped. I think i might be able to fix the wire? but where would i get a new clip? Ive looked online and i can only find caps or rotors to buy!, whats the best thing i can do to get this problem fixed?

ouch....
Without having it in front of me i can only suggest mabye another model car distributor clip from a wreckers, trying a vw or audi parts supplier, or fashioning one from something like the airbox uses.

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about (not good enough with cars I guess) but I'm just tearing down the internal combustion part of my car.

If you need something from the distributer area just let me know.

Are you talking about the ground wire on the metal insulating cap?
I have some old clips off a dismantled distributor if you need one.

I cut off my plastic clip (mine is green and is actually 2 wires, the centre wire and the sheilding)and replaced it with 2 small female spade tip connectors and plugged them into the distributor. It's been working fine since last September. The spade tip connectors are the small ones that are used for speaker connections. I used the same connectors for my thermal time switch. I have a 1980 turbo.

Whoops, I remember when i broke that part. I intended to replace it before i sold it, but it kinda got put off, sorry about that. Contact PartsHeaven in Hayward, they're an all Porsche junkyard. You don't pull your own part, and they charge a pretty hefty premium. Look at evilbay as well, make sure you get an 81-82 distributor, otherwise it won't work.

Heres a picture of the problem. The white wire is what i used to splice the broken wire to get myself home, the tape is holding them all down under the rotor so they dont get chopped up again.

Hey Mike, you do the valve adjustment yet? If not, I could help you out this week.
